Upstate New York Catskill Mountains Sunset PictureOn a trip into the northern Catskill mountains, Robin Supak took these Catskill Mountains pictures of a great upstate New York sunset! These great photographs were taken near south Worcester, NY, which is east of Oneonta, NY and south of Cobleskill, NY.

These desktop wallpaper pictures were taken on our trip home from our son Spencer's winning playoff game in Jefferson, New York. The Cherry Valley Patriots baseball team went on to win the Tri-Valley Championship!

Statue of Liberty Night Light Web Page BackgroundApparently, Robin's abstract photographs are popular with the iPad owners, who are downloading them for use as iPad wallpaper. Today, I've added a couple more abstract photographs to Robin's collection, including this one that makes a great background for text, like with a web page, or any graphic art. I just used it as a background to the quote:

The space on the right is perfect for your liberty quote of choice! The photo is of a Statue of Liberty night light, taken by Robin Supak. It also makes a great desktop wallpaper picture, as you can align all your icons in the empty space and still have the Statue of Liberty on the left.

Bethlehem Steel

The rusting steel mill in Bethlehem PATook these old steel mill photographs in Bethlehem, PA--once the heart of America's steel industry. This abandoned steel mill rusts alongside the Lehigh River, next to a casino.

Some of these photos were taken using the wide-angle lens, and some the telephoto. All of them, as usual, were taken with computer backgrounds pictures and free desktop wallpaper photography uses in mind.

Life in our backyard

Black-capped ChickadeeMy favorite thing about spring is ramps--a kind of wild garlic spinachy thing that goes great in omlettes or just about anything, really. I also love to put the telephoto lens on and take pictures of any birds not scared away by seeing me outside for the first time in months!

This new bird gallery has shots taken during about an hour outside recently, watching the birds feed and the ramps grow, listening to the woodpeckers laugh and some other birds playing Marco! Polo!...

As I mentioned in the organic gardening blog, I'm always amazed at the garden life that survives the winter. Hell, I'm amazed that anything survives outside for a winter. But the garden is under a nice warm blanket of snow, but the birds that stay all winter just have to be tough! I know the chickadees can lower their body temperature when it gets really cold, but the other tough guys, like the woodpeckers, have to just rough it.

Maybe that's whey they're laughing at me! "Look at the wimp! Finally comes out when it's warm!" Guess they didn't see me out there BBQing when it was 0 degrees that one day.

Last gasp of winter

A frosty tree line near Cooperstown, in upstate New York.A couple of cold nights, with a little dusting of snow, and that's about it for this mild winter. Hell, I only got to barbeque in 0 degrees once! Here are a few shots from this past winter, and that'll be it. Soon, the ramps will be out, the garden will get planted, and the photographs will have a lot more green in them!

Double Railroad Trestles

This railroad bridge is one of two crossing US Route 20 in the same spot, west of Albany, NY.These railroad trestles cross US Route 20 west of Albany (a few miles west of Crossglades Mall). It was a cold day, my hands were freezing (as was the water under the bridge), but I couldn't resist taking a few shots of this rusted but still working remnant of an industrial age that keeps hanging on.

As with all our pictures taken since we moved east (see the cross-country series from 2008), these photos are available in very high resolution versions--just ask about them. These 1600 pixel wide versions are available to use under the creative commons license. All we ask is for a link to Supak.com in return.
