It's cold out there, but the days have been getting just above freezing, which makes for some great icicles! The snow has been slowly piling up (amazing that DC has had more snow than we have this year) slowly, and this morning was particularly beautiful with the sun coming up over the historic village of Cherry Valley, NY, shown here from the hill north of town, looking south down the Cherry Valley Creek watershed.
We just posted some photographs from around Cherry Valley, including a couple of desktop wallpaper bird pictures and some pictures of icicles that are particularly impressive after a few days that got just above freezing.
We have two feet of snow coming this week, so we'll be out taking all kinds of great show pictures! The great thing about snow up here is that they deal with it very well. The plow guys get out immediately, and there are plenty of plows.
You really have to hand it to those guys. It's a tough job at odd hours, and when the plow breaks, I've seen them out there in the snow crawling under those big trucks to fix salty-snow covered parts... Not an enviable position, especially when it's butt ass cold out there.
I'll try to get a picture of one of the plows in action. It's really quite a site when they're cruising along sending up a huge spray of snow in their wake. I'll need the wide angle lens we just bought for that!
We also got a telephoto lens, which I've wanted for bird pictures for a long time now. Got this great shot of a female cardinal the other day, and maybe I'll get lucky and get a shot of the very shy pileated woodpecker one of these days.
Glad we got these new lenses right before the big snow. Should be fun. As long as the satellite internet connection holds out, we'll be uploading the pictures as we get them, so stay tuned.
