We found that people were using our high definition nature photos as web page backgrounds and desktop wallpaper. These photo galleries are just the tip of the iceberg; we have access to thousands more high quality photographs.

A frosty tree line near Cooperstown, in upstate New York.A couple of cold nights, with a little dusting of snow, and that's about it for this mild winter. Hell, I only got to barbeque in 0 degrees once! Here are a few shots from this past winter, and that'll be it. Soon, the ramps will be out, the garden will get planted, and the photographs will have a lot more green in them!

Abstract photography by Robin SupakRobin has been taking abstract photographs for over a decade now, and has put together quite a collection. I've been remiss in adding some of her best work to her abstract photography gallery here at the photo blog, so here goes.
If you visit Robin's abstract photography gallery at the link above, you'll see that we've added some newer shots to that collection, including a few Christmas lights shots, and some winter road photographs, taken recently.
Robin's light source and motion technique works really well on the white background of upstate New York winter. A few of these shots look like they were taken on the great salt flats, complete with mirage effect.
All of these abstract photographs are available for use and remix through the creative commons license of this site. All we ask is for credit and a link back to here or to Supak.com. Robin's abstract pictures have been used as web site backgrounds, free desktop wallpaper, and as a starting point for various graphic arts and visual arts presentations.
I've used bits and pieces throughout our web sites, and client web sites, as part of the web design and graphic design process. They lend themselves well to the flows of certain web sites, and we encourage anyone to help themselves, giving us credit and a link for our trouble.

The Historic Village of Cherry Valley NYIt's cold out there, but the days have been getting just above freezing, which makes for some great icicles! The snow has been slowly piling up (amazing that DC has had more snow than we have this year) slowly, and this morning was particularly beautiful with the sun coming up over the historic village of Cherry Valley, NY, shown here from the hill north of town, looking south down the Cherry Valley Creek watershed.
We just posted some photographs from around Cherry Valley, including a couple of desktop wallpaper bird pictures and some pictures of icicles that are particularly impressive after a few days that got just above freezing.
We have two feet of snow coming this week, so we'll be out taking all kinds of great show pictures! The great thing about snow up here is that they deal with it very well. The plow guys get out immediately, and there are plenty of plows.
You really have to hand it to those guys. It's a tough job at odd hours, and when the plow breaks, I've seen them out there in the snow crawling under those big trucks to fix salty-snow covered parts... Not an enviable position, especially when it's butt ass cold out there.

Female Cardinal on Our Back PorchI'll try to get a picture of one of the plows in action. It's really quite a site when they're cruising along sending up a huge spray of snow in their wake. I'll need the wide angle lens we just bought for that!
We also got a telephoto lens, which I've wanted for bird pictures for a long time now. Got this great shot of a female cardinal the other day, and maybe I'll get lucky and get a shot of the very shy pileated woodpecker one of these days.
Glad we got these new lenses right before the big snow. Should be fun. As long as the satellite internet connection holds out, we'll be uploading the pictures as we get them, so stay tuned.

This winter scene out a frosty window makes a great computer background picture for your desktop!Here's a little winter collection of computer background pictures we've been saving up. A few of these were taken specifically with computer background or winter wallpaper in mind. They were all taken up here in central New York, and a few of them were taken out our window when it frosted over.
As you can see from this example, the frosted area of the window is the perfect place to put your desktop icons, and the view out the window is best left uncovered. This shot can also be used for any kind of graphic (ad, sign, web page header, etc) where you want to put the text in the frosted area, leaving the view of the snow covered fir tree uncluttered. I'll be doing a post about this kind of thing soon, over at my Internet Marketing blog.
Also included in this batch is a photo of a frozen waterfall just outside of Sharon Springs, which is a vertical shot (not the best for use as wallpaper, but cool for other graphics and backgrounds). There's also a great sunset shot from a hill near Esperance, New York, which is in the central Leather Stocking region west of Albany.

Platte Clove Waterfall, Catskills Forest Preserve, New YorkGreat pictures from Platte Clove, in the Catskill Forest Preserve, added to our Catskill Mountains pictures page. Being a Californian, I was suprised there wasn't more spring time budding going on here in upstate New York. I've been told we're just a couple of weeks early. Live and learn. I'll head back to this waterfall in the summer and fall for the various seasonal views.

Cherry Valley New York Winter WallpaperRobin got took some great winter photographs from her trip to New York last week. Here are the best of them. From snowy woods in Woodstock New York, to the snow covered fields of Cherry Valley, near Cooperstown, Robin took a great series of winter wallpaper pictures that you can use as free backgrounds on your computer or web pages.

Big Bear Lake CaliforniaWhile working on my friend Vince's web site for his Big Bear vacation rental house, a log cabin right near Bear Mountain Ski Resort, I decided to add some Big Bear wallpaper pictures. These are shots that my wife Robin took from the top of the Bear Mountain ski slopes. I couldn't take these pictures because, well, I can't ski that well. No way could I have skied down that mountain! She skis circles around me. Literally. She even took a video while she did it. She took these breathtaking shots of Big Bear Lake, the San Gorgonio Mountain Range, and the ski slopes of Bear Mountain Resort in 2003. We have other pictures, including pictures of Vince's cabin, on his Big Bear cabin rental web site.
